Strider has made some changes and improvements to their popular run bike, which had remained unchanged from the original model that was released a few years ago. The MSRP of the new ST-3 Run Bike is $119, which is $20 more than the standard Strider run bike (officially called the ST-2) that is still available for purchase. The 2012 Strider features the following changes from the original Strider:
A narrower and lighter seat that will fit your child better
A 60 pound rider weight limit, which is an increase from the 50 pound weight limit of the ST-2)
Quick release clamps for the seat and the handlebar. This allows for quick adjustments with no tools required.
The Strider ST-3 comes with a handlebar pad. This pad offers extra protection and gives the bike a cool, fresh look
Thinner handlebar and grips. The new handgrips are 43% smaller in diameter than the ST-2, making it a better fit for small hands.
The Strider ST-3 and ST-2 are both available in the following colors: Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Red, and Yellow. They are designed for children form 1 to 5 years old. However, if you child is 3 1/2 years or older, Strider recommends that an extra long seatpost is used. The extra long seatpost adjusts from 14 to 19 inches from the ground, which adds an additional 3 inches compared to the standard seatpost. The extra long seat post has to be purchased separately, and costs $15.95
Below are some additional features available on both Strider models:
The frame, fork and handlebars are made of steel, which makes this a very durable run bike
Thanks to the adjustable handle bar and seat, the Strider fits riders from 30 to 44 inches tall
The wheels are EVA polymer – puncture proof and flat free.
The molded wheels come with sealed bearings and 8mm steel axles.
If you are looking to have a customized run bike for your toddler, Strider is your best bet. They sell seats, grips, and wheels in eight different colors. As of now, all of these need to be purchased separately, so it would cost you an additional $65 for custom color wheels, seat and grips.

We LOVE this bike! Our 2.5 yr old rides all around with confidence. We’ve never had any problem with the quality or the steering. I think that $100 is worth teaching a young child to learn balance, coordination and confidence on a bike. The quality and construction of the bike are perfect for what the bike is intended. It is made for young children so it has to be lightweight and easy to use.

I purchased the running bike for my 2 year old grandson and he already is a pro. The bike is great, very well built and the concept is very smart. Would truly recommend it and am happy I made the purchase.

My son received a regular pedal bike for his 2nd birthday. He did fine with it – learned how to pedal and brake – but the difference really came after he started “borrowing” his little sister’s strider (they are 16 months apart) that she got for her 2nd birthday. Within a few hours he had figured out how to balance and he increased his distance and duration. After one hour without training wheels, he can now ride his bike. He can even start himself because he runs with his bike – a strider acquired skill! I HIGHLY recommend this product! I never had any of the quality control issues some of the other poster’s had, I found the bike to be of sound quality. I would recommend you adjust the seat height frequently – both my kids did/do a better job on the bike when they are sitting on the seat and their toes (not their whole foot) touch the ground. They definitely learn the balance concept faster.

My 2 year old boy loves the bike…I think the quality could be a bit more due to the $100.00 price tag. The wheel bearings are plastic which wont last and the Handle bars are hard to steer or fall if you loosen them. Over all the bike does serve the purpose of my boy learning to balance, it is just the quality i am concerned with…

My daughter is almost 4 and got her Strider run bike about 2.5 months ago. She loves it! We do have the extra tall seat post which gives her plenty of growing room. I think if your child is much older than 3 you should get the extra tall seat post in addition – gives you at least 3 more inches of seat height I would say. To those who worry the bike will be too small just check out the Strider website and you will see their 5 year old having fun on his Strider! My almost 4 year old was coasting down small hills with her feet up after about 4 weeks. She can’t get enough of her bike! This really is one of the best ‘toys’ we have ever bought.

The bike is bit smaller than I thought it would be. My son is a tall 3 year old 41″ and will most likely be way to tall by his 4th birthday April 3. Overall it is a very nice bike to train with. However due to the size would not recommend.
